Visitors and locals alike had the opportunity to taste an <strong>extraordinary variety of tapas<\/strong>, ranging from <strong>avant-garde creations to traditional delights<\/strong>, all celebrating the rich <strong>culinary heritage<\/strong> of the region.<\/p>\n<p>This event, organized by <strong>Caf\u00e9s y Bares de Zaragoza<\/strong>, holds a <strong>special place in Spanish culinary history<\/strong> as <strong>the oldest tapas competition in Spain<\/strong>. As <strong>Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Marteles Gracia<\/strong>, President of the organization, pointed out, the competition is <strong>not just about gastronomy<\/strong>; it also emphasizes the <strong>economic impact of the hospitality sector, its social role, and its potential as a tourist attraction<\/strong>, adding tremendous value to the <strong>city and province of Zaragoza<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>With an estimated <strong>60,000 tapas served<\/strong>, the competition was a resounding success. However, only <strong>16 tapas<\/strong> made it to the final round after rigorous judging. On <strong>November 27<\/strong>, after an intense deliberation, <strong>&#8220;Tataki Baturro&#8221; from Casa y Tinelo<\/strong> was crowned <strong>the best tapa of Zaragoza<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>An Unparalleled Opportunity<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Organizing a city-wide gastronomic event of this scale <strong>is no easy task<\/strong>. It requires <strong>patience, dedication, and meticulous planning<\/strong>\u2014values that define the <strong>essence of this competition<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure <strong>fairness and creativity<\/strong>, the competition is divided into <strong>three categories<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Aragonese Tapa<\/strong> \u2013 Highlighting local products from <strong>Arag\u00f3n<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mediterranean Tapa<\/strong> \u2013 Representing <strong>Mediterranean cuisine<\/strong> and its cooking techniques.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Original Tapa<\/strong> \u2013 Where <strong>innovation and creativity<\/strong> take center stage.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Finding a <strong>common framework<\/strong> that accommodates <strong>different establishments<\/strong>\u2014from local taverns to fine dining restaurants\u2014is a challenge. However, as <strong>Marteles explains<\/strong>, the competition constantly evolves to <strong>adapt to the diverse needs<\/strong> of participants.<\/p>\n<p>This <strong>XXIV edition<\/strong> saw the <strong>highest level of participation in recent years<\/strong>, with <strong>113 establishments<\/strong> competing, marking a <strong>33% increase compared to the previous edition in 2017<\/strong>. A <strong>remarkable 46% of this year\u2019s competitors<\/strong> participated <strong>for the first time<\/strong>, proving the <strong>enduring appeal and relevance<\/strong> of the event.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>The Oldest Tapas Competition in Spain<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;We proudly claim the title of <strong>Spain\u2019s oldest official tapas competition<\/strong>, as it has been <strong>continuously organized<\/strong> by the <strong>same professional association<\/strong> since its inception,&#8221; states <strong>Jos\u00e9 Mar\u00eda Marteles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Zaragoza has long recognized <strong>gastronomy as a key strategic asset<\/strong>, and <strong>events like this one<\/strong> help reinforce the city\u2019s status as a <strong>culinary destination<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>According to <strong>Marteles<\/strong>, <strong>two key trends<\/strong> emerged in this year&#8217;s competition:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Trampantojo&#8221; tapas<\/strong> \u2013 Deceptive creations that <strong>look like one thing but taste like something completely different<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Canelones (Cannelloni)<\/strong> \u2013 A traditional dish <strong>reimagined in innovative ways<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Although <strong>this edition is now in the books<\/strong>, anticipation is already <strong>building for next year\u2019s event<\/strong>.
