This <strong>prestigious title<\/strong> recognizes the <strong>Asturians&#8217; deep passion for food<\/strong>, the <strong>excellence of Oviedo\u2019s chefs and products<\/strong>, and the <strong>rich cultural traditions<\/strong> that make <strong>gastronomy a way of life<\/strong> in the region.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>A Feast with a Historic Legacy<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>El Desarme is <strong>rooted in history<\/strong>, celebrating what is known as <strong>&#8220;The Disarmament Menu&#8221; or &#8220;The Peace Menu&#8221;<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Although various legends surround the events of <strong>October 19, 1836<\/strong>, it is widely agreed that, after a fierce battle between the <strong>Isabelinos (Oviedo locals) and the Carlists (their adversaries)<\/strong>, the conflict ended with <strong>a shared three-course meal that remains unchanged to this day<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Chickpeas with cod and spinach<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Oviedo-style tripe<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Rice pudding<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This <strong>tradition began as a local festivity<\/strong> but has grown in <strong>popularity and prestige<\/strong>, largely due to the <strong>efforts of the Cofrad\u00eda del Desarme<\/strong>.
