The Cambrils-based company Verdcamp Fruits has been honored as one of the six most sustainable agricultural producers in Spain, an award granted by Celler de Can Roca and BBVA.
Thanks to its innovative techniques aimed at rebalancing the productive system, such as floral intercropping and 360-degree farming, Verdcamp Fruits has successfully created a sustainable ecosystem for all its products.
A Commitment to True Sustainability
We had the opportunity to speak with Ernest Mas, Technical Director and R&D Manager at Verdcamp Fruits, who emphasized the company’s dedication to real sustainability—one that is tangible and visible in the fields.
“At Verdcamp Fruits, we work not only to minimize the negative impacts of agricultural production but also to enhance the positive effects that benefit both the environment and society,” Mas explained.
Sustainability Beyond Sales
Although Verdcamp Fruits distributes its products internationally through various retail chains and its online platform Disfruta y Verdura, the company prioritizes quality over sales volume.
“Our product means nothing if it is not cultivated in harmony with the land and its surroundings,” Mas stated.
Located in Cambrils, the company benefits from a mild climate, proximity to the mountains, and abundant aquifers, making it an ideal environment for agriculture. The sandy-loam soil is currently undergoing regeneration efforts to enhance its fertility.
A Rich Variety of Crops
“In Cambrils, we can grow almost everything—from ‘A’ for acelga (chard) to ‘Z’ for zanahoria (carrot),” Mas noted.
The company cultivates a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, all of which reflect the region’s landscape, biodiversity, and tradition. Their farming methods integrate flowers into the crops, promoting beneficial fauna while enriching the soil naturally.
Award-Winning Agricultural Innovation
Verdcamp Fruits earned this prestigious award due to its continuous efforts in sustainability, applying circular economy principles through initiatives like “Healthy Crops and Happy Bees”, which fosters an environment where pollinators play a central role in the fields.
Mas firmly believes that the true value of agricultural products lies in their story—their origin, production methods, and their impact on both human health and the environment.
Cambrils: A “Healthy Destination”
While Cambrils is well-known for its coastline, its rich agricultural lands are equally significant. The harmonious blend of land and sea products makes Cambrils a prime location for sustainable, Mediterranean cuisine.
Through its commitment to healthy eating and emotional well-being, Cambrils is establishing itself as a “Healthy Destination”, where visitors can experience the best of both worlds—fresh produce from the land and the sea.
