The Most Flavorful Autumn is in A Coruña

A Coruña has firmly established itself as a must-visit foodie destination, where exciting and delicious events are constantly taking place. This autumn promises to be more delicatessen-worthy than ever, so let’s take a look at the gastronomic calendar for a season packed with delightful surprises.

Territorio Atlántico: A Celebration of Local Flavors

The first event of the season kicked off a few days ago. The Territorio Atlántico Gastronomic Days, promoted by the A Coruña Tourism Consortium, return for their third edition, bringing together 21 restaurants and hospitality establishments united by their passion for Galician ingredients.

Until October 23, Peculiar, Charlatán, Greca Bar, Bido, Restaurante Novo, Pablo Gallego, La Empanada Viajera, Nado, A Espiga, Salitre, Habaziro, Café Veracruz, Central Park, Eira, Taberna 5 Mares, Millo Orzán, Cantón 23, Esencia, La Conquista, Roots, and A Parva will offer a total of 25 unique and bold dishes, both savory and sweet, all made with local products sourced from the Mariñas Coruñesas e Terras do Mandeo Biosphere Reserve.

Seasonal, zero-kilometer ingredients of the highest quality take center stage, including mushrooms, chestnuts, pumpkin, eggplant, cabbage, artichokes, spinach, quail, and apples. The culinary talent of A Coruña’s chefs is evident in their commitment to sustainable gastronomy, increasingly sought after by a new generation of diners concerned about environmental impact and the fusion of global flavors with local traditions.

Expect an array of autumnal delights, such as marinated sardine fillets with Cagiao cheese, baby zucchini tempura, vegetable ratatouille, fresh salads, empanadas, seafood dishes, quail with cabbage, Asian fusion elements, Peruvian and Italian-inspired flavors, and, of course, irresistible desserts for the most refined palates.

Picadillo Tapas Competition: A Coruña’s Ultimate Tapas Event

Territorio Atlántico is an excellent way to savor A Coruña, but it’s just the beginning. Next month marks the start of the 18th edition of the Picadillo Tapas Competition, the oldest tapas contest in Galicia, honoring Manuel María Puga y Parga, a former mayor of the city in the early 20th century, renowned gastronome, and author of influential cookbooks.

Tapas culture is deeply ingrained in A Coruña, and from November 3 to 13, food lovers will be able to enjoy dozens of creative bites, where innovation and tradition meet with imagination and quality. The event takes place in a relaxed, lively atmosphere, inviting locals and visitors alike to hop from bar to bar, indulging in delicious tapas with family and friends.

This edition will feature two main categories:

  • Creative Tapas
  • Picadillo Recipe Tapas, judged by an expert panel.

Additionally, there will be special prizes for:

  • Best Pairing, requiring the use of 1906 beer from Estrella Galicia, the contest’s official sponsor.
  • City of A Coruña Award, determined by public vote through a dedicated web app.

All Picadillo tapas must be original, handmade, and crafted using local, zero-kilometer products.

Boucatise: A Coruña’s Gourmet Sandwich Festival

The autumn gastronomic journey doesn’t end there. On December 3 and 4, the San Agustín Market will host the Boucatise Festival, A Coruña’s gourmet sandwich festival. Now in its seventh year, this event celebrates culinary creativity in sandwich form, with 14 local establishments presenting their signature creations.

Each sandwich will be made using homemade or premium Galician bread, filled with top-quality local ingredients. As an added challenge, one key ingredient in each sandwich must be purchased directly from the San Agustín Market, reinforcing the festival’s commitment to local products and sustainable cuisine.

With so many flavors, traditions, and innovations on display, autumn in A Coruña has never been tastier!
