Burgos Named Best National Gastronomic Destination

The city of Burgos has been awarded the title of Best National Gastronomic Destination in the first edition of the Readers’ Choice Awards 2023 by Viajes National Geographic.

After more than a month of open voting on the magazine’s website, thousands of readers and followers chose Burgos as the Gastronomic Destination of the Year, surpassing other strong contenders such as Dénia, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Sigüenza, and Tolosa.

This recognition confirms the hard work and dedication of Promueve Burgos, which has been actively promoting the city as a leading gastronomic destination both nationally and internationally. For years, Promueve Burgos has participated in congresses, fairs, and events to highlight its rich culinary offerings and position Burgos as an attractive food tourism hub.

A Perfect Blend of Tradition and Innovation

Burgos has solidified itself as one of Spain’s top gastronomic and tourist destinations, offering a unique blend of tradition and innovation with a strong focus on local and seasonal products.

With over a decade of dedication to enhancing its culinary scene, Burgos was designated a UNESCO Creative City in 2015. The city now leads the newly formed Spanish Creative Cities Network, which will hold its first official event on April 25 in Manises.

Additionally, as of January 2023, Burgos has become part of the Saborea España network. This network, made up of 25 top gastronomic destinations across Spain, aims to promote Spanish cuisine internationally and transform gastronomic products into unique, high-value experiences.

Award Ceremony in Madrid

The official award ceremony will take place at El Ovillo restaurant in Madrid on Tuesday, April 25, starting at 1:30 PM. The event will be attended by Burgos’ Vice Mayor, Vicente Marañón, who will receive the award and deliver a short acceptance speech.

The first edition of the Readers’ Choice Awards 2023 by National Geographic consists of 10 different categories, with Best National Gastronomic Destination being one of the most anticipated.

This prestigious recognition cements Burgos’ status as a must-visit culinary destination and a benchmark for food tourism in Spain.
