More Than 50 Establishments to Participate in the 18th Picadillo Tapas Competition in November

From November 3 to 13, A Coruña will host the 18th edition of the Picadillo Tapas Competition, an annual event that highlights the city’s vast gastronomic potential. Organized by the Consorcio de Turismo y Congresos de A Coruña, the competition is supported by Hostelería por el Clima, Estrella Galicia, and the Celiac Association.

All tapas created for the competition must be handcrafted, featuring Galician products, preferably locally sourced (kilómetro cero) or bearing a protected designation of origin (D.O.) or protected geographical indication (I.G.P.) from Galicia. Once again, Saborea A Coruña positions the city as a national gastronomic hub.

A Coruña Strengthens Its Reputation as a Food Destination

“With an autumn full of high-level gastronomic events, A Coruña continues to establish itself as a premier food destination,” stated Juan Ignacio Borrego, Councilor for Institutional Relations, Public Safety, and Tourism, and President of the Consorcio de Turismo y Congresos de A Coruña, during the competition’s presentation.

Borrego emphasized the city’s commitment to high-quality products, sustainable gastronomic tourism, and the promotion of local hospitality businesses. Antonio Roca, Commercial Delegate of Hijos de Rivera, also participated in the event.

More Than 50 Establishments and 60 Tapas on Offer

This year’s competition features 52 participating establishments offering 60 different tapas, priced between €1.50 and €3.50.

  • 22 Creative Tapas
  • 38 “Recetario Picadillo” Tapas

A new feature this year is the “Recetario Picadillo” Tapa, inspired by traditional savory Galician recipes from the famous book “La Cocina Práctica” by Picadillo, the renowned figure after whom the competition is named.

“This new category brings a touch of history to the competition, celebrating Galicia’s culinary heritage,” explained Borrego.

With a strong focus on tradition, quality, and sustainability, the 18th Picadillo Tapas Competition promises to be a highlight of A Coruña’s culinary calendar.
